It is hard to even begin to consider the true nature and extent of the Incarnation. So many other religions have a view of God which shows Him as transcendent to the point at which He can not be known to any degree. He is the Unknowable and Unapproachable One. There of course are those aspects of God which are beyond our comprehension. Even if He were to reveal those aspects of His nature to us, we would not be able to understand them to any degree. But the beauty of Christmas is that God did reveal Himself to us in a sacrificial act that no man can fully understand. The sacrifice started long before the cross.

How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

My thoughts are on the Babe. The Babe who would one day pave the way with His own life so that I and all others who trust in His Name could stand before His glory.
